They are meant to be worn for a few hours at a time and should be safely removed before sleeping.</p>\r\n<p>Recently, more options for false eyelashes have become popular, one being magnetic lashes. These are temporary—like those with adhesive—and are either applied using a magnetic eyeliner on the eyelid or a double layer of eyelashes that stick together at the base.</p>\r\n<p>Another option is eyelash extensions, which are meant to last three to four weeks at a time. Eyelash extensions are typically made of mink or silk and are applied to the base of each natural lash with a semi-permanent glue.<br>\r\n&nbsp;</p>\r\n<h4><b>Do Your Research before Applying</b></h4>\r\n<p>False eyelashes are generally safe, but there are a few risks to be aware of before applying them. “The adhesive used in temporary false eyelashes isn’t regulated by the FDA, so you don’t always know what’s in it,” warns Dr. Armstrong. Some people may have an unknown allergy or sensitivity to the adhesive.</p>\r\n<p>If you’re looking for a salon to apply eyelash extensions, make sure you choose somewhere reputable. Ask for the esthetician’s training experience and certifications, observe their sterilization procedures and do a skin test of the adhesive before application of the lashes.</p>\r\n<p>Keep in mind that extensions take time, because they should be applied to the base of each lash individually. If a lash extension is glued to a clump of lashes instead of a single lash, it can result in a fracture of the natural lashes.
